Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who should buy a Pre-Need Plan?
A.  If you're retired or approaching
retirement, now might be a good idea to check
into Pre-Planning. However, if you or a loved
one is facing a life-threatening illness,
or even have a peculiarly hazardous occupation,
contact us and we'll tell you how it works.

Q.  When I purchase a Pre-Need Plan, do I have to use it with the funeral home from which it was purchased?
A.  Yes and No. Pre-Need Plans are bought from funeral homes based on their prices at the time. The funeral home guarantees those prices for use at the time of need.

Another funeral home would not normally accept such arrangements because their charges would be different. However, if you cancel your Pre-Need Plan purchased at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary
at any time, we will refund 100% of your money, and you will then be free to use the funeral home of your choice.  By the way, most insurance policies, such as Forethought Life, United Families (Fortis), and Mission Life, are able to be transferred and used at any funeral home.

Q.  Will the casket I purchase under my Pre-Need Plan be available when it is needed?
A.  Yes, it will, unless of course your Pre-Need Plan isn't used for many, many years. If this is the case, then a casket of equal value and quality will be substituted.

Q.  What if I, or my deceased loved one, doesn't want a "traditional" service?
A.  At Callahan-Edfast, we understand personal preferences. Our funeral counselors are trained to help you with your desires - and, of course, we can counsel you about state requirements to help you make decisions.

Q.  Will I receive any death benefits from Social Security when my spouse dies?
A.  Yes, you will receive a $255 death benefit paid to a surviving spouse or children under the age of 18 years. We will contact Social Security for you and they will contact you.
